FAA Aviation Medical Examiner
Dr. Richard S. Roth (Rick) is a Senior FAA Aviation Medical Examiner that is dedicated to assisting airmen with their medical certification needs.
Dr. Roth retains an active aviation component to his career pursuits. Besides being a Senior AME since 2005, he holds an ATP pilot license, Lear 60, and Gulfstream G550 type ratings and regularly flies his own Beechcraft A36 Bonanza throughout the Southeast.
Dr. Roth is currently a G550 & G450 instructor at the Flight Safety International Savannah Center. His total flight hours have exceeded 4000+ during his business and recreational efforts but finds his work with canine rescue flights the most rewarding component. He completed his infectious disease fellowship in Boston Massachusetts within the Harvard Medical School combined infectious disease programs. Dr. Roth regularly lectures nationally on various topics regarding the airmen medical certification process to the aviation and the medical community at large. He has multiple publications and was honored as the Teaching Attending of the Year for the 2012 – 2013 academic years by the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Dr. Roth was honored to be appointed a board member of the CAMA (Civil Aviation Medical Association) in 2015 and is a regular contributor to their Flight Physician Quarterly Journal. Dr. Roth was inducted as a Fellow to the Civil Aviation Medical Association in 2017. He has been the Infectious Disease consultant to the CAMI Airmen Certification Division of the FAA since 2009. Last October the Federal Air Surgeon appointed him to be a specialist consultant to the NTSB/Medical Appeals Branch in Washington DC.
Dr. Roth has a private AME practice office on the Savannah airfield, Roth Aviation Medical Services, which focuses on the evaluation and FAA medical certification of aviators in the Savannah area supporting the pilots, flight engineers, and flight attendants in the Gulfstream Aerospace’s Flight Ops Department. He also provides travel consultation and vaccination protocols to these international travelers.
During the Covid19 epidemic, Dr. Roth has been assisting APA (American Airlines), Gulfstream, and the FAA with policy and procedures across the multifaceted demands presented daily to the aerospace arena.
He has been married to Debra for 25 years and has raised, shown, championed, and rescued Polish Sheepdogs and Bearded Collies for two decades.
